Funerals

Only the people who loved the person who has passed can really tell the story of who they were. What their passions were in life, their sense of humour, their ups and downs, and what they will be remembered for.

Funerals

I have often found myself feeling uncomfortable at funerals where I am grieving the loss of a loved one and the person officiating the service obviously has no real knowledge of the person who has passed. It feels impersonal and rather conveyor belt-led! When my Mother passed away, we hired a celebrant to officiate her service. I’d had no previous experience of a celebrant-led service and I found myself enjoying the memories and reflections shared by the celebrant to everyone present. I decided there and then that it was something I would like to do and made the decision to train.

It’s my job to ask the right questions and come up with a script that you are happy with and they would feel was a true reflection on the mark they made in the world. I will also talk to their close friends and other family members if you wish me to incorporate their stories into the draft script.  Giving you time to reflect on the script, I will then ask you for any amendments or additions and return this to you quickly so we have our finished script for the service.

Some people want help with music or songs to sing.  This may simply be a song that was their favourite or something that really sums up that person, the choice is yours.

Some people have asked for things that are completely outside a traditional funeral format. I’ve worked with singers, samba bands, a whole host of music for when we say our goodbyes, many poignant and many sad but always a reflection on the person who has passed.  The service should last between 25 – 45 minutes but will be confirmed with the Funeral Director.

After the service, I will present the family with the script and leave you to toast your loved one in your chosen way. I don’t attend the wake as I feel this is time for family and friends and I do not wish to intrude.
